Rita Bahuguna Joshi today sought removal of DGP AK Jain and registration of a case against him, two days after CBCID sought prosecution sanction from Uttar Pradesh Home Department against the officer and several police officers for arson in the Congress leader's house in 2009.

Attack on Joshi's residence took place in July 2009 after she reportedly made derogatory remarks against the then UP chief minister Mayawati.

"CBCID has sought prosecution sanction from the Home department in my house arsoning case of 2009. The chief minister (Akhilseh Yadav) should immediately remove him from the post and I give 48 hours to the government to lodge an FIR against him," Joshi told reporters.

The Congress leader said that she would meet the chief minister before chalking out her future strategy.

Joshi also alleged that the chief minister was "kept in dark about the CBCID probe and his (DGP's) extension was sought from Centre."

"The home department kept the chief minister in dark by not apprising him about the CBCID sanction. I also want probe of home department's role in the entire matter," she alleged.

The UP Police Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) had lodged two fresh FIRs early this month against 24 policemen in the case of alleged arson and rioting at the house of ther Congress leader.

"Those booked included the then Lucknow DIG Prem Prakash and then Additional SP (ASP) Harish Kumar," according to Station House Officer, Hussainganj police station, Shiv Shankar Singh.
