With political leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Shashi Tharoor in attendance, ace designer Ritu Beri made her debut at the Delhi Couture Week with her Punjab inspired collection.

Titled 'Punjabi Rock and Roll', the show was an amalgamation of everything Punjabi - from the ornate peepal tree on the stage, to the live orchestrated performance by famous singer Jasbir Jassi.

"I always wanted to perform live at a fashion show and finally my dream was fulfilled today. I really enjoyed working with Ritu," said Jassi.

Delhi-based classical singer Sunanda Sharma also performed hit Punjabi numbers with Jassi during the show.

"I am a Punjabi and so I took inspiration from my own culture. I enjoyed putting together this whole collection. It took me almost 6 months to complete it but I am very happy to see the result," Beri said.

The fabrics used in the bridal collection were silk velvets, brocades, satins and nets- all blended and intricately embroidered with zardosi, gota, Swarovski and threadwork.

The colour palate ranged from whites to pastels, metallics to blacks.

The silhouettes were a mix of traditional costumes with a contemporary look. The clothes were grand and courtly. The skirts were voluminous.

The silhouettes ranged from ghagra, Patiala salwars, long jackets, saree inspired gowns, kurtas and gararas.

Beri's daughter also walked down the runway towards the end of the show in one of her creations.
