Describing as 'eyewash' the probe being conducted Principal Secretary, Home, Amir Subhani into the event, the Leader of Opposition Abdul Bari Siddiqui and state RJD President Ramchandra Purve sought an inquiry by a sitting HC judge to highlight the administrative failure.

"How can an officer working under the state government point out the administrative lapses which led to the tragedy?" they told reporters.

Citing examples, the RJD leaders said earlier administrative probes into the collapsing of the bridge over river Kosi and firing incident in Forbesganj had failed to yield any result.

Siddiqui and Purve sought to know from Kumar names of officials who accompanied him on the tour of the ghats on the first day of offering Arghya on November 19 leaving the masses to fend for themselves.

They also highlighted the alleged inadequate arrangements at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) which proved disastrous on the day of incident.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who airdashed to Patna a day after the stampede on November 19, had demanded that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar own moral responsibility into the incident and resign.
