Workers of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), an NDA ally, would observe a day-long fast and honour teachers on July 27 as part of their 'Shiksha Sudhar, Shikshak Satkar' programme in Bihar, party president and union minister Upendra Kushwaha today announced.
The programme would aim to inculcate the feeling of respect towards teachers among the people, he told newsmen here.
It is everyone's responsibility - in the government and in the society to give respect to the teachers, said Kushwaha, who is the union minister of state for HRD.
"As part of RLSP's consistent programme to improve the lot of the education sector in Bihar, the party has decided to hold the programme at the district headquarter-level on Guru Purnima on July 27," Kushwaha told newsmen.
RLSP workers and leaders will observe a fast on the day and honour teachers as the party aims to restore their credibility and honour which have declined in recent times.
Advocating equal pay for equal work, Kushwaha said that he has been saying it for quite some time and the apex court too had spoken of it.

He appreciated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for raising the "important issue" of midday meal affecting the quality of education in the state.
Teachers should not be assigned non-academic work like engaging them in midday meal programme or construction of buildings, he said.
Kushwaha refused to answer questions by scribes on senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh's statement that RLSP would join Grand Alliance in Bihar once the number of seats is decided.
"Matters relating to politics and election can be raised at the time of polls." he added.
