The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will inquire into the train accident near near Kathojodi station in Cuttack, in which two persons were killed and 35 others injured, officials said.
S Nayak, Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, Kolkata, under the Ministry of Civil Aviation will hold a statutory inquiry in connection with the accident of Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak passenger train yesterday. The inquiry would commence on October 3, East Coast Railway's (ECoR) chief public relations officer J P Mishra said.
"Any member of public having knowledge relating to the accident and matter connected therewith and desiring to give evidence may do so on the date of inquiry," he said, adding people may also write to the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
Bodies of the two GRP personnel killed in the accident have been handed over to their family members after post mortem.
Hospital emergency officer B N Moharana said 19 of the injured have been discharged, while conditions of the remaining 16 are stated to be out of danger.
Railway officials said the guard of the passenger train, driver, assistant driver and loco inspector have been placed under suspension, pending inquiry.
The ECoR has disbursed as compensation Rs 50,000 each to the family of the deceased, Rs 25,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 5,000 each to those with minor injuries.
The Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak passenger train had rammed into a stationery goods train at Kathajodi station last evening.
Train services via Cuttack normalised today as the tracks were repaired, officials said.
