Participating in the discussion on The Appropriation (Railways) No 3 Bill, Bashistha Narain Singh (JD-U) said no serious attempt has been made to improve the financial health of Railways and criticised Minister Mukul Roy for stating that his department was in ICU.

"I seek a categorical reply from the Railway Minister that instead of increasing rail fare has it ever made an attempt to devise other means of generating income," he said, claiming that no serious attempt has been made to improve its financial health.

"Railways should issue a vision document for improving itself," he said, suggesting it should stop wasteful and useless expenditure, look into its tendering system, link itself with tourism and protect its property from being usurped by land mafia all over the country.

He also took a dig at the Railway Minister for creating history, where one Minister introduced the budget and the other replied.

Citing the example of Bihar, he said, only honest and sincere attempts and proper planning will help improve the state of Railways. (MORE)
