The Rajkot Municipal Corporation's (RMC) food and health department seized 17 tonne of mangoes ripened by chemicals
harmful to humans, an RMC official said here today.
"The RMC has launched a campaign to destroy mango ripened by chemicals as a part of which, about 17 tonne of mangoes ripend using chemicals were seized by the RMC's food and health department here today," RMC Food and Health Department In-charge Pankaj Rathod said.

"The mangoes were brought here from Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) in two trucks and RMC officials seized the fruits before they were unloaded from the truck," he said.
"Warehouse owner Chandresh Rachh had been bringing these mangoes from Vijayawada since last one month and sold them to various restaurants as well as caterers at a wholesale price," he said.
"The corporation seized six kilograms of chemicals kept in the truck to ripen the mangoes quickly," he said.
