RO slaps notices on 4 candidates in Cuttack for MCC violation

The Returning Officer (RO) of Cuttack-Barabati Assembly segment today issued notices to four candidates, including ruling BJD nominee Debashis Samantray, for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Congress candidate Mohd Moqim, BJP candidate Pradeep Kumar Swain and Aama Odisha Party candidate Md Saqil of the segment were also issued notice by the RO for the same, official sources said.

The candidates have been issued with the notices by Cuttack Sadar sub-collector Sudarshan Parida, who in his capacity as the RO of the Assembly segment has observed that the candidates have violated the MCC by pasting their posters and banners on government properties.
 

The candidates were also canvassing by pasting their posters on private properties without prior permission, the sources said.

Asking the party candidates to reply within 24 hours, the RO has warned that if the candidates fail to respond within the stipulated time, appropriate action as deemed proper shall be taken against them in accordance to Representation of Peoples Act, they said.
