Traffic was diverted as a road in south Mumbai caved in, leaving a big crater on what was once a road covered with paver blocks.

Civic authorities have cordoned off the road. The cause of the cave in is not yet known, a BMC official said.

Two days ago, in a similar cave in, a 22 feet deep crater came up overnight, in a village in adjoining Palghar district.

The crater was noticed in the farm owned by Vikramgad tehsil resident Tulsi Kothe.
