Road connectivity between Barak Valley and Dima Hasao districts has been disrupted following landslides and landslips due to heavy rainfall.

Due to the incessant rains since Sunday, the Haflong-Silchar Road was in an unmotorable condition with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the affected area, official sources said.

The worst affected area is Boro Muolkoi, 38 km from Haflong, where in addition to landslide and landslips, around 200 metres of the area falls under vertical land sinking phenomena.

The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council authorities have expressed concern over disruption in road connectivity with a team of Council members, led by Executive member Kulendra Daulagappu visiting the area.

The team urged the district administration and NF Railway authorities to allow the use of the diversion road near the railway tracks, currently being used by a construction company for conversion of metre gauge to broad gauge line.

Construction work in the area is being carried out by Jay Kalika Maa (JKM) road Construction Company which has been blamed by the locals for not taking appropriate steps immediately to restore road connectivity.

The company has been trying to restore the road service as early as possible by constructing a bye-pass road towards the on-going B.G Line railway track on temporary basis, a spokesman of the company said.
