BJP today demanded that Delhi Police make sure that a "strong" and "foolproof" case is presented in court in connection with the Turkman Gate road rage incident, which has sparked outrage among the residents in the national capital.

Along with a delegation of leaders of the party, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay today visited the residence of Shahnawaz, who was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men after his motorcycle grazed their car in central Delhi's Turkman Gate on Sunday.

The Delhi unit of the party also sought police cover for Shahnawaz's children, who are eyewitnesses in the case.

"We demand that the FIR which goes to court is strong and foolproof. The role of Chandni Mahal police station staff, accused of delaying the probe at the behest of the local MLA, should also be investigated. The two policemen who refused help to the son of Shahnawaz during fatal moments should also be enquired.

"We demand security for the children of Shahnawaz," Upadhyay said in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi.

In another letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party reiterated its demand for the removal of state minister Asim Ahmed Khan, who has been alleged to have shielded the men accused of beating Shahnawaz.

"I have written to the Chief Minister to drop Khan, who is being accused by local people of pressurising police to first delay the arrest of the culprits and, later, to file a weak FIR in the matter," he said.

The party said it plans to hold a demonstration tomorrow at Kejriwal's residence demanding Khan's removal for his "nefarious role" in allegedly trying to protect the accused in the case.
