Four armed robbers barged into the residence of a retired government employee in Dwarka area of south-west Delhi and decamped with cash and jewellery after holding the family hostage for nearly three hours, police said today.

According to the police, the thieves struck at the house of one J P Vinayak, a resident of Bagdola village near Dwarka sector 8 on Sunday Night. He lives with his wife Jagdish, a son and a daughter.

"The incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when Nayak heard his wife's screams for help. When he rushed to her, he was confronted by four armed men. The robbers tied both of them with a bed sheet.

"Meanwhile hearing the commotion, his son Rajiv came there and tried to raise an alarm but was overpowered by the robbers who tied him up also. The robbers then also shackled his sister and asked them about the valuables in the house," said a police official.

The robbers searched the whole house for around three hours for cash and jewellery and finally fled at around 5 AM, police said.
