Posing as customers, six or seven robbers entered Chhayanai Majherhat Krishi Cooperative Bank at Chhayaani under Baruipur police station.
They brandished revolvers soon and looted Rs six lakh in cash from vault and gold jewellery worth Rs one lakh and fled in motorbikes, the sources said.
However, three of the robbers were caught by villagers who beat them up killing one of them on the spot.
The two injured others were admitted to Baruipur Hospital in a serious condition.
