Six armed men today robbed a cash van of a private bank and looted Rs 1.34 crore on the Mohali-Banur road near Manauli village here, police said.
The robbers, with their faces masked, came in a white-coloured SUV and left the cash van in the fields of nearby Durali village and managed to flee, they said.
The cash van was on its way to Rajpura to deposit cash at the bank's various ATM branches, police said.
The SUV was later found from Sekhanmajra village near Zirakpur, police said.
The miscreants followed the cash van and then forced it to stop on the Mohali-Banur road near Manauli village.
The robbers, after breaking windows of the cash van, took it along with them and abandoned it near Durali village after transferring the cash from the van into their vehicle, police said.
The miscreants asked the security guards to get down from the van and threatened to kill them if they raised an alarm, they said, adding, the robbers took away the weapons of the guards and later abandoned them with the van in Durali village.
The guards in the cash van, Kuldeep Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Karamjeet Singh, told police that they were heading towards Rajpura but when they reached Manauli village, a white SUV hit their vehicle and asked them to stop following which they took the vehicle loaded with cash towards Durali village.
