Robbers posing as I-T dept officials loot Rs 30 lakh

Over half a dozen robbers posing as Income Tax officials got into a rice mill owner's residence here early today and looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh at gunpoint.

The robbers arrived at Mukesh Agrawal's house in a car and introduced themselves as Income Tax department officials, Udhamsingh Nagar SSP Senthil Abudai Krishna Raj S said.

When Agrawal's younger brother asked them to produce their ID cards, they got angry and pulled out their knives and guns, he said.

They then ransacked the house for nearly an hour, keeping the inmates captures at gunpoint and left with Rs 8 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 22 lakh, the SSP said.
 

Police has recovered CCTV footage of the car used by the robbers and is examining it to get clues, Raj S said.
