Robbers try to rob ATM, beat up guard in Jaipur

Two robbers allegedly tried to loot the ATM of a nationalised bank after thrashing a guard but had to flee after a call was made to the police in Karnivihar area here in the wee hours today, police said.

The two robbers walked into the ATM of State Bank group and thrashed Laxmichand (60), a guard hired by a private security agency, and also tried to strangle him, Karnivihar police station Investigating Officer Ramesh Chand said.

They then ripped out portions of the machine with rods but could not succeed as the guard made a call to police, the IO said.
 

Laxmichand was rushed to a hospital by the police who arrived at the scene at about 3 AM and was discharged after first aid, he said.

As per the banker there was over Rs 8 lakh cash in the machine which was still intact, he said, adding, police were on a lookout for the robbers.
