'Iron Man' star Robert Downey Jr wants to become a pop star and is reportedly planning to record an album.

The 48-year-old actor has been approached by record producers since a duet he did with rocker Sting hit the internet - and is secretly recording an album, reported Showbizspy.

"Some of the biggest names in the music industry are helping Robert put his CD together," a source said.

"Robert has already recorded several songs, and he sounds better than a lot of the performers out there," it added.

Downey and Sting have been friends for years.

"Those two go way back, and you couldn't ask for a better music mentor than Sting. It is clear that Robert is talented, and he has been writing music for as long as he can remember. Who knows? He may win a Grammy before he gets an Oscar," the source added.
