Cardamom prices surged by 2.59 per cent to Rs 1,068.50 per kg in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions amid upsurge in domestic as well as exports demand in the spot market.

Besides, tight stock position on fall in arrivals from major producing regions supported the price uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in far-month January 2018 traded higher by Rs 27, or 2.59 per cent to Rs 1,068.50 per kg in business turnover of 15 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in December went up by Rs 20.30, or 2.01 per cent to Rs 1,031.50 per kg in 40 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders after uptick in domestic as well as exports demand in the physical market against restricted supplies from producing belts mainly attributed the rise in cardamom prices at futures trade.
