Rohingiya woman, 3 children held in Tripura

Four Rohingya Muslims refugees

a woman and three children -- were arrested in Tripura's Unakoti district for staying in India without valid documents, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Yeazikhaora village under Irani police station limits and arrested them on Monday, Officer in-charge of the police station, Alamgir Hossain, said.

It is not yet to be ascertained whether she is the mother of all the children.

The refugees were produced before Kailashahar Sub- Divisional Judicial Magistrate's (SDJM) court on Tuesday.

The SDJM sent the three minors to a juvenile home and remanded the woman to judicial custody for 14 days.

 

During preliminary interrogation, the woman said they came to India to visit relatives by crossing the Indo- Bangladesh border illegally and reached Assam with the help of a person, Hossain said.

At least 50 Rohingya refugees were arrested in Tripura since January.

On January 18, 31 Rohingya Muslims were arrested by the BSF from the no-man's land of the Indo-Bangladesh border at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district. Nineteen other Rohingiyas were taken into custody from Ashabari village adjoining the international border in the same district on February 26.
