Terming the recent fee hike for driving licences and vehicle registration "unreasonable", Congress MP K C Venugopal has asked the government to roll back its decision.
Venugopal in a letter to Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "I would like to invite your attention to take immediate steps to withdraw the unfair hike in the vehicle registration charges and fee for the allied services."
The Centre has recently announced a fee hike for driving licences, driving school permission, international driving permits, transfer of vehicle ownership and registration of various categories of vehicles and its renewal.

Terming the decision as "unprecedented", the Alappuzha MP said the hardship of the people is increasing day by day due to the "undemocratic rule of the government as the issue of learner's licence for each class of vehicle has been increased from Rs 30 to Rs 150, while the fee for a driving license has been hiked from Rs 40 to Rs 200."
"Therefore I would request you to roll back the decision to impose this unfair hike immediately...," Venugopal said.
The government has made two additional categories - endorsement or renewal of authorisation for vehicles carrying hazardous goods has been fixed at Rs 100, and for a learner's licence test fee or repeat test, the public will have to pay Rs 50, a road ministry official said.
