Romanian ballet fusion with Odissi

Romanian ballet performers will present a unique fusion with Indian Odissi here during the fourth edition of International Ancient Arts Festival 2013.

Romanian ballet dancers from the Bucharest National Opera House are set to present a unique fusion dance with Odissi performed by Odissi exponent and spiritualist Reela Hota.

The two day event from May 22 is organised by 'Rays of Wisdom Society' and the Ministry of Culture.

"The first day we have a fusion of Bucharest National Opera House and Odissi group led by me and so its a fusion on a theme and it is a original composition by Padma Vibushan Rajan Mishra," Reela Hota director, Festival director told PTI.
 

Mandara Cromwell, who is the founder of the International Sound Therapy Association as well as who has bagged the Thomas Edison Award nominee for innovation in fields of Science and Medicine 2013 would also present a talk on the science of sound.

"Mandara will present a research on this subject and we will present a dance on it", said Hota.

According to Reela Hota the combination of Odissi and Romanian ballet is a good one.

"The aim of this festival is highlighting how music, dance and vital therapeutic practises in traditional systems of healing can combine to meet lifestyle challenges of today. The special focus is on an ancient language this year, Sanskrit," said the director.

"We have to present a theme and for that we have to use an art form and we had to think on how to attract the audience by doing something fresh. So we decided to use the Romanian Ballet and Odissi group to present Sanskrit", she said.

Initial rehearsal process are on the way and according to the programme director they been exchanging music online and would start practising after the Romanian troupe arrives here on May 13.

Hota, an Odissi performer herself points out that music, dance and vital therapeutic practises in traditional systems of healing can combine to meet current lifestyle challenges.

According to her Sanskrit verses are believed to be very powerful for our physical and mental health.
