'Rongali' festival to begin from Feb 3

The third edition of 'Rongali', a three-day festival to promote tourism and showcase the essence of Assam's varied culture, will be held here from February 3.

The festival will showcase the traditional houses, food, music, dance, way of life of different local communities such as Bodo, Mising, Karbi Dimasa, Tiwa, Ahom and Bhatias, Rongali Chief Organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta told reporters here today.

Around 35 colourful dance forms, mask-making workshop from Samaguri Sattra in Majuli, Mati Akhara, Bhaona, Bihu workshop, musical performances and photography exhibitions are some of the major highlights of the festival.

The festival also aims at developing the Brahmaputra riverfront as a major centre for aero-sports like parasailing, paramotoring and hot air-modelling, Mahanta added.
 

The traditional Dragon Boat race or 'Naokhela' will also be organised along with traditional local sports of the state.

India's top rock bands and musical talents will perform in each evening, he said.
