'Room' wins seven honours at Irish Film And TV Awards

Acclaimed drama "Room" was the big winner at the Irish Film and TV Awards, scooping seven trophies including best film and best director for Lenny Abrahamson.

Oscar winner Brie Larson was named best international actress for the movie, which was produced by Ireland's Element Pictures.

"Room" also also picked up awards for best script film, best editing, and original Music, reported BBC.

Liam Neeson was also honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award, which was presented to him by Irish President Michael D Higgins.

The Taken star said he was "honoured" and "flattered" by his latest accolade, but also added, "It's a little embarrassing."
 

Actress and humanitarian Roma Downey was also among those saluted - she was presented with the Irish Diaspora Award by rocker and Live Aid hero Bob Geldof.

There were also trophies for Michael Fassbender (best lead actor for 'Steve Jobs'), Saoirse Ronan (best lead actress for 'Brooklyn'), and Oscar winners "Spotlight" (best international film), and Leonardo DiCaprio (best international actor).
