A maintenance staff of the ropeway service at the Millennium Park of Ashoknagar in North 23 Parganas district died today after he was injured atop one of the poles while servicing the ride, the police said.
Shibaprasad Shaw (61) was a senior mechanic and was engaged in maintenance work atop one of the poles of the ropeway when he got stuck after an iron rod accidentally injured him in the back, said district Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee.
The fire brigade was immediately informed and soon the mechanic was brought down by the personnel and was rushed to the local hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival, the SP said adding, a probe has been ordered into the maintenance facilities and safety features of the ropeway.
