Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Maharatna Company SAIL, maintained the ascent in performance in key areas in first eight months of 2014-15, achieving over 23 per cent jump in hot metal production.
During April-November 2014, the steel plant produced 20,21,212 Tonnes of Hot Metal thereby registering a growth of 23.3 per cent over the corresponding period last year (CPLY), RSP said in a release today.
The trend was reflected in two other vital areas like Crude Steel and Saleable Steel. The Steel Plant made 18,16,973 Tonnes of Crude Steel and 1712249 Tonnes of Saleable Steel, thereby recording improvement of 20.2 per cent and 16.9 per cent respectively, it said.

By making 169157 Tonnes of HR Plates, 96223 Tonnes of CR Sheets/coils, 22783 Tonnes of ERW Pipes and 48023 Tonnes of CRNO steel, RSP recorded growth of 10.7 per cent, 43.3 per cent, 1.7 per cent and 7.1 per cent respectively over the April-November period of last fiscal, it said.
A noteworthy feature of the first eight months of the fiscal is the performance by the new Units set up under modernisation and expansion.
The Coke Oven Battery-6 recorded an average oven pushing of 69.5 as compared to 57.7 of last year, while the Sinter Plant-3 made 1426026 Tonnes of Sinter, which is more than double of last year's 710850 Tonnes. The Blast Furnace-5 recorded its Best Ever Single Day production by making 6836 Tonnes of Hot Metal on November 12, it said.
In the field of Techno-Economic Parameters too the performance of the Plant was quite significant. RSP registered Specific Energy consumption of 6.57 Giga Calorie per Tonne of Crude Steel and Coke Rate of 511 Kg per Tonne of Hot Metal, during April-November 2014, which are the best ever figures since inception, the release said.
Notably the improvements in the Techno-Economic parameters have a very positive impact on the bottom-line of the organisation.
