RPF orders court of inquiry against constable

The Railway Protection Force has ordered a court of inquiry against RPF constable Pawan Kumar Singh for allegedly killing a railway porter, his wife and daughter and wounding two other family members in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, a senior RPF official said on Monday

On Saturday night Singh allegedly opened fire from his 9mm pistol on railway porter Ashok Ram and his family at their house near Barkakana railway junction killing Ram (55), his wife Lilawati Devi (52) and pregnant daughter Meena Devi (27).

A joint team of the district police and the RPF personnel are searching for the absconding RPF constable, the Inspector General of Police (RPF)-cum Principal Chief Security Commissioner (PCSC) in Hajipur Zone of the East Central Railway (ECR), Ravindra Verma, told reporters here.

 

He said a court of enquiry has been ordered.

"We are in direct touch with the state police and raids are being conducted," he Verma said.

The IG said that a few constable suffer from depression and other mental problems due to lack of basic facilities and keeping this in mind the RPF Hajipur zone is working to provide them better facilities and new barracks with better facilities is being constructed in various divisions including Dhanbad and Ranchi.

"Mental health check-up in every six months has been added in medical health check-up of constables to make them free from anxiety, depression and other problems," Verma said, adding that counseling for depression by experts has also been added.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered with the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Barkakana against Singh under section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act, a GRP police officer said.
