The Republican Party of India, a member of opposition Shiv Sena-BJP led alliance 'Mahayuti', today said AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal should refrain from making irresponsible statements against the media.

"Media has only made him (Kejriwal) big. He should stop making irresponsible statements against the media, or else when we come to power, we will put you (Kejriwal) behind bars," RPI chief Ramdas Athawale told reporters here.

The AAP leader had last week alleged that the media was "sold" and heavy payments had been made to project Narendra Modi for prime ministership. He had also threatened to put the media in jail after an enquiry if AAP comes to power.

Athawale questioned as to how can they (AAP) call themselves 'Aam' (common) when they organized a fund-raising dinner at a price of Rs 10,000 per person.

Cautioning Kejriwal against contesting the Lok Sabha polls against BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi from Varanasi, he said it would only destroy his career.
