Rs 1,260 cr allocated for solar powered greenhouse scheme

The Tamil Nadu government today allocated Rs 1,260 crore towards the Chief Minister's solar-powered green house scheme for the year 2013-14.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has allocated Rs 1,260 crore for constructing 60,000 houses this year, a state government release here said.

The unit cost had been increased from Rs 1.80 lakh to Rs 2.10 lakh following hike in the prices of construction material, it said. Of this, Rs 1.80 lakh would go towards construction of the house and the balance on setting up solar power systems, it added.

A key rural housing scheme, the ruling AIADMK had announced the initiative after the 2011 Assembly elections, with the government setting itself a target of five lakh houses in five years.
 

Over one lakh houses have been completed in 2011-12 and the subsequent year, the release added.
