Rs 1.4-cr handed out by govt to labourers in Delhi

The Delhi government has disbursed close to Rs 1.4 crore among workers under various laws between August 11-22.

"The labour department has disbursed an amount of Rs 1,39,26,072 under various labour laws like Employees Compensation Act, 1923, Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, Contract Labour Act, 1970, which has benefited 451 workers, from August 11 to August 22, " said a senior Delhi government officer.

The department has redressed 356 grievances/complaints of workers/public received through the Public Grievances Monitoring System (PGMS) portal in a time bound manner.
 

Besides enforcing labour laws, the department has undertaken welfare activities for the benefit of industrial workers and their families in the national capital.

"At present, eight welfare centres are functioning in different parts of Delhi. The department has been organising nursery, handicraft, vocational and music classes at these centres for the dependents of industrial workers. Facilities like reading room, library, adult-education and for indoor and outdoor games are available at these centres," the officer added.

He said the department has also directed all district officers to adopt a pro-active attitude and make all out efforts to mitigate the complaints and grievances of workers and ensure their legal entitlements as per the provisions of various labour laws.
