Posted in the tenancy branch of the Pune district collectorate, deputy collector Kiran Mahajan and his assistant Randive were caught accepting a bribe from one Sanjeev Gawde of Shivajinagar on September 12, the anti-corruption bureau said.
Gawde wanted to purchase 10 acres of land at Khand village in Mulshi taluka.
Mahajan and Randive had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from Gawde to grant the required sanctions so that the file could be sent to the Pune divisional commissioner for a final approval, ACB superintendent of police Sarang Awad said.
Later, Gawde lodged a complaint with the ACB following which a trap was laid and the duo were caught accepting the bribe.
"We conducted searches (yesterday) at Mahajan's flat in Pashan and seized Rs 24.24 lakh in cash, three fixed deposits worth Rs 44 lakh, seven property documents of Rs 76 lakh, gold and silver ornaments and other valuables. The total assets seized are worth more than Rs 1.79 crore," Awad added.
