: The Puducherry government has taken up a Rs 10 crore project to concretise drainage canals to ensure free and fast flow of stormwater into the sea so that residential areas are not waterlogged in heavy rains.
Official sources said today that the heavy rains since the last few days had inundated several areas though the work executed in the past in some areas had minimised the impact of the rains. However the drainage canals have to be improved and for this a Rs 10 crore project has been launched, they said.
The project envisages cement flooring of the entire canal stretch in Melvaaikal. A similar one would be launched soon to link Karuvadikuppam with the town area.
