Rs 10 lakh looted from cloth trader

A group of armed men accosted a cloth trader and looted Rs 10 lakh in cash from him in East Champaran district of Bihar today, police said.

The incident occurred near a bridge on National Highway 28 under Dumaria Ghat police station in the district.

Chakia DSP Mundrika Prasad, under whose jurisdiction the place of occurrence falls, said, "The trader Taufir Alam alias Munna was going from Mehsi in the district to Siwan in a pick-up van to buy cloth from wholesale market when armed miscreants riding an SUV intercepted his vehicle. They thrashed him and looted a bag containing Rs 10 lakh cash."
 

The DSP said the trader has registered an FIR against two wholesale cloth merchants saying they had been pressurising him to buy cloth from them and had threatened him of dire consequences if he failed to do so.
