Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the 'Himalayan Tourist Circuit'.

The decision has paved the way for 14 tourism related projects to be developed in the state, he said at the ninth meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Board here.

The projects shortlisted under the circuit, include the Rs 25 crore convention centre at Kiarighat, the Rs 7 crore heliport at Shimla, and Rs 4 crore each for a village haat at Kangra, beautification of the Dal Lake and a free-climbing standing wall at Manali, a official spokesman said.

The heliport is coming up on a hill plateau and would also have indoor and outdoor exits, besides landing facility for private choppers, he said.

The chief minister said after the completion of ropeways, Himachal Pradesh would be a choice destination for religious and adventure tourism.

In the long-run these projects would not only cater to the basic needs of the tourism industry, but also become a source of employment and earn revenue for the state, Singh said.

The meeting was informed that an agreement for four ropeway projects on 'built operate transfer' (BOT) basis has been signed.

It includes the Rs 150 crore Dharamshala-Mcleodganj, Rs 289 crore Adi-Himani-Chamunda, Rs 340 crore Palchaan-Rohtang and Rs 94 crore Bhuntar-Bijli-Mahadev projects.
