Rs 1100 Cr sought for skill development

The labour department has put forward a demand for Rs 1100 crore in the 2015-16 state budget for skill development programmes to ensure employment to the educated youth, Labour Minister Parameshwar Naik said today.

Addressing reporters here, he said the government had sanctioned four ITI's for the Dakshina Kannada district and a sum of Rs 5 crore had been sanctioned to establish a labour office in the city.

He said that the labour department had also submitted a proposal to the state government to include BPL families under Rashtriya Swasth Bhima Yojana and the Chief Minister had approved the inclusion of 43 lakh BPL families under the scheme.
 

As many as 5 lakh construction and others labourers have been identified to avail the benefits of smart card being provided by the government, he said.

Former Mayor Shashidar Hegde, T K Sudhir, Sadhashiv Ullal, Nazir Bajal and others were present.
