Haryana government today approved a sum of Rs 12.07 crore as compensation for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots following the recommendations of Justice (retd) T P Garg Commission which was appointed to go into the matter.
Following Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's approval, the compensation would soon be distributed, an official release said.
Finance Minister, Captain Abhimanyu said the Commission had received 193 applications from Gurgaon and Pataudi for compensation.
Thereafter, the Commission held a total of 109 meetings and heard 384 witnesses. A total of 367 documents were presented before the Commission, he added.
Abhimanyu said on the basis of the report received from the Commission, Rs 5.75 crore has been approved for 36 cases of death and Rs 26 lakh for two cases of injury. Similarly, Rs 4.80 crore has been approved for 96 cases of damage caused to residential property.
He said compensation has also been approved for 84 cases of damage to commercial property.
These included Rs 3.50 lakh for six poultry farms, Rs 50 lakh for 10 industries, factories and workshops, Rs four lakh for four liquor agencies, Rs three lakh for eight motor vehicles, Rs 48.50 lakh for 54 shops, Rs 12 lakh for two transport and finance companies and Rs five lakh for two gurdwaras.
