Rs 13.54 cr for Project Tiger scheme in Mizoram

Mizoram government has received Rs 13.54 crore under Project Tiger scheme from the National Tiger Conservation Authority between 2011 and 2017, the state Assembly was informed today.

The funds came for the Dampa Tiger Reserve, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla who also holds Environment, Forests and Climate Change department, said.

There are three to four tigers in Dampa, the chief minister said in a written reply to a query by Mizo National Front member Lalruatkima.

The fund was utilised for payment of salaries, building infrastructure, maintenance, construction of roads and patrolling paths, habitat improvement, creation of grassland, field ration and vehicle maintenance.
 

Situated along the Bangladesh-Tripura border, the core area of Dampa Tiger Reserve covered an area of 500 sq km.
