"A total compensation of over Rs 153 crore has already been given to 286 farmers for their 499 acres of land acquired," Revenue Officer, Fatehabad, Ram Singh Bishnoi said today.

The state government had on July 18 announced the award to acquire land in village Gorakhpur to set up the nuclear power plant and said the farmers would get a compensation of Rs 46 lakh per acre.

Meanwhile, main opposition INLD held a meeting at Panchkula recently and passed a resolution against the setting up of the nuclear plant, citing safety reason and protests by some farmers against their land being acquired for it.
