The Arunachal Pradesh government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 16 crore for re-carpeting and black topping of all dilapidated sector roads in the state capital with a total length of 293 km, government spokesman Bamang Felix said here today.
"The repairing and maintenance works for these roads have already been started," Felix disclosed in a press conference here this evening.
He appealed the citizens to be vigilant for successful maintenance of the roads and further cautioned that any individual dumping muck on these roads or undertaking earth cutting and damaging public assets including roads would be dealt stringently as per law.
"Citizens are requested to display civic sense and refrain from such activities and also report to authorities," he said.
On the state government proposals for construction of cement concrete road for the state capital, Felix said that since the concept was new for the state, the state government undertook training programme for the engineers of the works departments for ensuring cent percent success of the project.
"The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 31.5 crore and the government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs 22.5 crore in the first phase while another amount of Rs 9 crore has been earmarked for the second phase," he informed and added that the work would start immediately after Diwali.
Felix said, the state which receives rainfall for nearly eight months in a year was prone to road erosion and landslides. "The government is contemplating to widen all the roads in the state capital with proper drainage system to minimize erosion along roads during monsoon," he added.
When asked on the law and order scenario of the state capital, the spokesman emphatically said that the state government by adopting the policy of zero tolerance was able to minimize the bandh culture to a great extent.
"Securing life and property of citizens is the prime duty of the government and the overall law and order situation in the state is under control," he claimed adding, cases of various crimes have been effectively cracked while 4x7 PCR vans were being sanctioned for all district headquarters and night patrolling was intensified in all vulnerable areas to check crime.
