Rs 17 cr for restoration, conservation of court buildings

To commemorate World Heritage week, the heritage committee of Madras High Court today charted out steps for restoration, conservation and maintenance of various court buildings and earmarked Rs 17 crore for the purpose.

Besides heritage buildings of the court, others include the Small Causes Court, Goerge town court and the Law College, a release from the Registrar General said.

The committee met here under the chairmanship of Justice R Sudhakar.

The Committee, with the assistance of experts in Archaeological restoration work and a representative of the Archaeological Survey of India, prepared a road map to take up the work in a time-bound manner. An amount of Rs 17 crore was earmarked for immediate restoration work, it said.
 

Restoration work would start immediately and progress is expected within a month, it said, adding that experts in different fields of heritage conservation would be consulted in this regard.
