Rs 17 lakh unaccounted money seized in TN

Election officials today seized about Rs 17 lakh unaccounted money in separate incidents in various parts of the state.

As officials were maintaining strict vigil against transportation of unaccounted money and illegal money transactions, they checked a car of one Tamilarasi in Sungam area in the city and found Rs 4.59 lakh, officials said.

Though she claimed that the money was to be paid to construction workers, officials seized it as she did not have valid documents to support her claim.

Similarly, Rs 5.09 lakh was seized during vehicle checks in three assembly constituencies in Nilgiris district.

The money was seized from five persons, three hailing from Kerala, one from Coimbatore and another from Mettupalayam, they said.
 

Election officials seized Rs seven lakh from a car during a vehicle check at Elumathur, 20 km from Erode.

The amount was seized as the passenger, a PWD contractor, could not produce a valid receipt for it.

After election dates were announced on March 4 and with the code of conduct coming into force, election commission officials have seized Rs 46.77 lakh in Udhgamandalam, Gudalur and Coonoor constituencies in Nilgiris district, officials said.
