Rs 18 lakh gold seized from two air passengers in Hyderabad

Over 600 grams of gold, worth Rs 18.63 lakh, was today seized from two passengers at the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport at Shamshabad here by the customs officials.

The RGI Airport Customs officials intercepted a Hyderabad-based passenger, identified as Isa Hashim, on suspicion, who arrived by a flight from Thailand at 1 AM.

After a thorough check, he was found wearing a gold chain (of raw gold) weighing 221 grams worth Rs 6.63 lakh, a customs official said.

Another passenger, who came by a Dubai flight at 3 AM, Abdul Rahman of Kasargod in Kerala, was caught by the Customs officials, after they found 400 grams of gold worth Rs 12 lakh concealed in his trolley bag in place of iron wire, he said.
 

"Both the passengers were let off after the gold was seized," the Customs official said.
