Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced his government would release Rs 180 crore as financial assistance to cooperative sugar mills for payment to farmers for sugarcane purchased during the crushing season 2013-14.
The Chief Minister, who was addressing Congress Party workers at Kurukshetra, said all concerned officers had been directed to release the payment to farmers within a week.
Any laxity in this regard would be viewed seriously and disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible for the delay in the release of payment, Hooda said.

Farmers in Haryana are paid Rs 301 per quintal for the early variety of sugarcane, Rs 295 per quintal for mid variety and Rs 290 per quintal for late variety.
Hooda said farmers have been paid on time for sugarcane purchased from them and no arrears are pending for the earlier crushing seasons.
