Now, the trucks coming from outside will only be allowed to enter Delhi from 11 PM onwards as the city government has decided to delay their entry timing from 9.30 PM to reduce pollution levels and ease congestion.

Trucks entering the national capital will now be allowed in only from 11 PM and a fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed on the violators, a senior Delhi government official said today, adding that a notification in this regard has already been issued.

As per estimates, around 50,000 trucks enter the national capital every day and contribute to the poor air quality in the city.

"The move is aimed at not only staggering vehicular movement but also to help in reducing alarming pollution level in Delhi. It will definitely help in smoother movement of vehicular traffic on various roads," the official said.

The government has also prohibited "idle parking" of heavy, medium and light goods vehicles on certain roads notified by the transport department.

Recently, the transport department had sent a proposal allowing trucks in Delhi only from 11 PM, instead of existing 9.30 PM.
