Rs 2.5 lakh was looted by three motorcycle-borne men from a Syndicate Bank branch in Odisha's Ganjam district today.

The three men wearing helmets entered the Syndicate Bank branch at Bhutasarasingi village in the afternoon and fled with the cash after assaulting the staff, including the manager and the cashier. At least two customers were present in the bank at that time, police said.

Senior police and bank officers from Berhampur have rushed to the spot.

The branch does not have any CCTV camera or guard as it is a very small rural branch, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Purushottampur, Dillip Das.

"At least three persons were involved in the crime and they used motorcycle to flee from the spot. Investigation is on," said SP (Ganjam), Asish Singh, adding patrolling has been intensified in the nearby areas.
