Rs 2 lakh cash seized from man's car in Varanasi

The static surveillance team and Adampur police has seized around Rs 2 lakh cash from a man's car here during vehicle checking drive in Rajghat area, police said.

Saif Kalam (30), son of a businessman, and resident of Chetganj was travelling in his car with Rs 2 lakh cash.

He was coming from Mughalsarai and was stopped during the vehicle checking drive at Rajghat under Adampur police station area yesterday, they said.

The cash was seized after he was unable to furnish any valid documents in this regard, they said, adding that the Income tax department was informed about the seized cash, they said.
 

The police action was taken in the wake of poll code violation, wherein carrying more than Rs 50,000 cash without its valid papers is prohibited, they said.

Uttar Pradesh will go to the polls in 7 phases from February 11 to March 8.
