Social welfare minister Sakina Ittoo announced this at a rehabilitation council awareness camp organised by District Social Welfare Department, Kupwara, yesterday.
"The state government has distributed Rs 21 crore under 32 welfare schemes run by the Social Welfare Department," the minister said.
Funds have been spent on the welfare of weaker sections, handicapped and senior citizens that include providing scholarships to students belonging to backward classes and underprivileged communities, financial support to families falling below the poverty line and families of victims of militancy, she said.
Later, Ittoo distributed cheques worth Rs 27.40 lakh under the Rehabilitation for Militancy-hit Victims scheme (RMV).
An amount of Rs 19.80 lakh was distributed among 212 students under 'without discrimination' scholarship scheme, Rs 36 lakh under pension to widows, old aged and handicapped persons and Rs 6.30 lakh under National Foundation for Communal Harmony among 70 students.
