Mizoram State Finance Commission had allocated Rs 21.20 crore for village councils in the state during 2015-16 but it was lapsed, state Finance Minister Lalsawta informed the Assembly here today.
Replying to a question from Lalrinawma of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), Lalsawta said that though the first State Finance Commission recommended Rs 21.20 crore for the village councils, the fund lapsed as the government did not approve the recommendation on time.
"The fund allocation recommended by the State Finance Commission for the village councils during 2015-16 would not be released as the state government by issuing an Office Memorandum on May four, 2016 declared the allocation of fund to the village councils was to be regarded as lapsed," he said.
He added that the village councils notified that they were not allowed to claim the fund as arrears of instalments from the state government.
