Rs 23L missing from ATM after robbery bid

An amount of Rs 23 lakh was found missing from an ATM of a nationalised bank in Sikar district of the state today after the machine caught fire when robbers tried to loot it.

Some robbers entered an ATM of Punjab National Bank (PNB) at Bawari village in Sikar in the wee hours with the motive of stealing from the machine, police said.

When they started cutting it with a gas cutter, the ATM's cash box caught fire and robbers fled the scene, they said

It is not clear whether they managed to steal the money, they added.

The incident came to light, later in the morning, when when customers entered the ATM room.
 

PNB's experts were called to review the loss and take stock of the situation, they said.

However police has launched a hunt for the robbers, they added.
