The family members of a woman, who died in a road accident last year, have been awarded Rs 24.77 lakh as compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal(MACT) here.
The tribunal directed Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company Ltd, the insurer of the offending tempo, to pay the amount to the husband, children and father-in-law of 36-year-old Pinky, who died after being hit by the vehicle.
"...It is established that Pinky sustained fatal injuries in a road accident on July 2, 2015 near DDA Flats at BRT Corridor in front of Madangir here due to rash and negligent driving of the respondent 1 (tempo driver)," MACT Presiding Officer Naveen Arora said.

The petition filed by Pinky's family members, said that she was riding pillion with her husband Rakesh Kumar, when a speeding tempo hit the couple's motorcycle from behind.
While the husband got severely injured, Pinky was taken to AIIMS Trauma Center where she was declared brought dead.
The tribunal, while deciding the amount of compensation, took into consideration the victim's annual income as Rs 1.50 lakh.
After considering various factors like loss of dependancy, loss of love and affection for minor kids and her husband, and other factors, the Tribunal finalised the compensation as Rs 24,77,200.
During the proceedings, the driver and the owner of the vehicledenied the averments of the petitioners through a written statement.
