Three armed motorcycle-borne robbers looted about Rs 24 lakh from two branches of a private bank here, police said today.

Unidentified men first targeted HDFC bank branch located in Bhigan village at 12:45 pm and looted Rs 4 lakh, police said.

They also fired shots, injuring a bank guard, said Haryana Police Sub-inspector Baljeet Singh.

In about half an hour, the trio struck again at another HDFC bank branch located at Kumaspur village and decamped with cash amounting to Rs 19.85 lakh, police said.

"The armed men entered the bank branch at 1:17 pm and within no time, they left with booty," Singh said.

The robbers took less than 10 minutes at both the branches for committing the crime, police said.

Bank officials informed the police that one man was wearing a helmet while two others had their faces covered with black cloth.

Police have set up various check-points in the district to trace the accused. Besides, CCTV footage collected from bank branches was also being investigated.

Banks have been told time and again to appoint security men at their branches to prevent any untoward incident, Sonepat DIG H S Doon said.

"Last week, we held a meeting with bank representatives and we stressed that they should have more gunmen outside their branches," said Doon.
